My blog post is concerning the unique country of Ethiopia. It is a fascinating country with a fascinating history that extends back in to the distant past. It’s connection with the Old Testament - especially King Solomon, Moses, and the minor prophets are truly intriguing. Furthermore, it’s exemption from the horrors of the slavey trade and western colonialism are also remarkable.
Ethiopia is located in the North-eastern corner of the continent. The capital city is Addis Ababa and it is located at 9ºN and 38º E. It’s geography well represents its culture and its people. In culture it is as much middle-eastern as it is African. It is as much Northern African as much as it is East African. The skin tone and complexion of the Ethiopian people also represents this its unique place on the globe and in History. Until the mid 20th century, the Ethiopian ruling family claimed their ancestry to be traced back to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba! Also, Ethiopia has one of (if not the most) the most ancient Christian groups on the planet. Perhaps we see in these last two proceeding facts evidence that the blessing of God was upon this special country in a significant way and is what caused the people to be shielded from the dangers mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Its greatest mountain range is the Ethiopian highlands, which are a complex group of mountains that are home to some of the world’s most unique plants and animals. The highlands are highest mountain is Ras Dashan. Ethiopia is home to black rhinos (although critically endangered), Simian Fox, Gelada, African wild dog, Bale Shrew, and the spotted neck otter.
The climate is tropical monsoon - which is very warm, with very heavy rainfall in the early autumn. This has also helped Ethiopia to sustain itself better than some other countries in the more desert regions of Africa. The high mountains also may have acted as a barrier against the spread of diseases found in other parts of the continent.
The geographic location of Ethiopia in the horn of Africa, along with its extensive diversity of jungle, desert, beach, forrest, and steppe plains have all factored into Ethiopia being one of the fastest growing economies of the present time.
